Animal Heroes, Drop-out Prevention, Women Veteran Entrepreneurs

Current and past animal wartime heroes are highlighted in an article honoring the most recent recipient of the Dickin Medal of Honor, a dog named Theo (photo from Stripes.com).  But horses, pigeons, and one cat also have served in the line of duty and been honored for bravery. See the article at: http://www.stripes.com/news/photos-army-dog

The statistics are disheartening, that 88% of new student veterans currently drop out of college, but there are resources available to make a successful transition, including the Veterans Upward Bound program and many veteran-serving organizations on campuses and off.  See more details at: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/25/veterans-college-drop and then reach out so you can get all the help you need to graduate successfully from the college of your choice.  See the YCVUB YouTube channel to help you get started at: http://www.youtube.com/user/ycvub

Are you nervous about adjusting to college life?  Here’s an article from the VA on making that transition go as smoothly as possible: https://www.myhealth.va.gov/mhv-portal-web/

The Women Veteran Entrepreneur Corps (WVEC) will help with training and mentoring female veterans’ small business ventures, see the article at: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/24/ Don’t forget that Yavapai College also offers Fast-Track Management courses (www.yc.edu/fast-track) and the SBDC (www.yc.edu/sbdc) for entrepreneurs, too!
