Getting Started With The VUB

     Fall is here and everyone is heading back to school...so why not you? Getting started with Veterans Upward Bound is easy. First thing to do, if you are in the quad-city area, is to head over to Yavapai College's Prescott campus. On the ground floor of Building 1, in the YC registration area, next to the Veteran Services window, you'll find the VUB walk-up window.

Andrew Meyers
     Once you're there, meet Andrew. He's the friendly face you see at the VUB window. He helps veterans start the process for connecting with Veterans Upward Bound. Andrew is a VUB participant and he talks with prospective student veterans about their eligibility, VUB resources and the benefits of participating in the Veterans Upward Bound program. After that conversation, Andrew then takes prospective participants on quick tour of the VUB classroom and study lab finishing in the VUB offices to meet Holly and the rest of the VUB staff.
Holly Molina
     With Holly, prospective student veterans learn about the entire VUB application process starting with receiving an application and scheduling a Compass exam, YC's assessment test. After that introduction prospective participants need to:
  • complete the VUB application;
  • return it to the office along with
  • a copy of the DD214 form;
  • apply for admissions to Yavapai College, which then permits students to:
  • take the Compass exam
  • and then bring the final Compass exam scores to the VUB office.
Derik Yellowhair

     When all the above steps in the application process have been completed, prospective student veterans are ready to meet with Derik, the VUB adviser to sign up for VUB modules, workshops and learn about other resources available Veteran Upward Bound participants. To find out more about what awaits you when you meet with Derik, check back here...
