Congress passed, and the President has signed into law, the VOW to Hire Heroes Act of 2011. Included in this new law is the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) for unemployed Veterans between 35-60 years old who no longer have access to VA educational benefits. The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Department of Labor (DoL) are working together to roll out this new program on July 1, 2012. The Verde Valley Job & Education Fair on April 4, 2012, was well-attended by employers and job seekers. Veteran hiring-preferences were noted by several employers with openings, including Yavapai County (at: http://apps.co.yavapai.az.us/employment/ ) and YCSO Detention, which is G.I. Bill approved, and includes paid academy training.
